Rollerblading & Other Hobbies!
Here's a picture of the multi-purpose path at Presque Isle State
Park, which is close to Erie, PA. This is, by far, my favorite place to Rollerblade, due
to its sheer beauty. The path has been repaved, and is nice and Smooth!
The path starts at the park entrance, and winds its way through woods, and along
the lake (Erie), to Commodore Perry's Monument, six miles (10 km.) away. I
generally make the round trip in an hour. I used to get passed up by all
the younger gals from nearby colleges, but now I can skate at a decent speed.
Actually, I'm pretty proud of the fact that I generally do the passing
now! I even pass people who are on bikes. My best time in 2002 for the 12 mile round trip is 51 minutes and 48 seconds.
I had to give up rollerblading in about 2012, as age caught up with me.
Hi,
I Rollerbladed for about 12 years. It really isn't all that hard to do, and offers
an excellent workout. Unlike jogging (or even walking), there is no continuous
"pounding and jarring" of your knee and hip joints. I've had a few
"spills", but fortunately, I was wearing proper safety gear (Well, most of the
time! I've broken both wrists skating while NOT wearing my protective gear.
I also broke my tailbone on regular skates indoors). When I first started, I wore a
helmet, elbow pads, wrist pads, and knee pads. Now, I only wear wrist pads. No matter how
good one gets at rollerblading, one should ALWAYS wear wrist/hand pads! As my
age caught up with me, I switched to bicycle riding, which is much safer for one
my age !
Some other places where I now bike are:
From home to Geneva on The Lake Twp. Park & back (17-20
miles depending on the route)
Western Reserve Greenway Trail (17 - 25 miles depending on the
Put-In-Bay, OH. (a.k.a. South Bass Island)
Some of my other Hobbies are:
- Golfing (very seldom these days due to my aching back)
- Bicycling (on a 21 speed bike!)
- Rowing my Raft(s) out on Lake Erie
- Amateur ("Ham") Radio
- R/C Models (I have Quadcopters - drones - & aircraft)
